Information for Local Residents – Staines 10K
The continued success of the Staines 10K — both as a popular community race and as a fundraiser for local charities — depends greatly on the support and cooperation of local residents. We are extremely grateful for your understanding, particularly as we recognise that the event may cause some temporary disruption to your usual Sunday morning routine.
The organisers are committed to keeping inconvenience to a minimum. However, some disruption is unavoidable, and we kindly ask residents to review the information below and make any small adjustments to plans where necessary.
Knowle Green – Start/Finish Area
From 7:00 a.m., traffic around Knowle Green will be busier than usual, with most runners arriving before 8:30 a.m., after which congestion should ease.
The race begins promptly at 9:00 a.m. near the Eclipse Leisure Centre. Until 8:55 a.m., runners will be held off the road on land adjacent to the Council offices. At 8:55 a.m., traffic heading towards the leisure centre will be briefly held near the Magistrates’ Court and, in the opposite direction, near Burges Way and the leisure centre car park exit.
Once the race starts, runners proceed west along the pavement towards Gresham Road. It takes approximately two minutes for all 750 runners to clear the start area. The timing mat is then removed and traffic along Knowle Green resumes.
Swimming/Sports Lessons at Eclipse Leisure
If you or your children have lessons at 9:00 a.m. on race day, please aim to arrive and park by 8:45 a.m. to avoid delays.
Burges Way Residents
Vehicular access to and from Burges Way will be briefly restricted from 8:50 a.m. to 9:05 a.m.
The first runners will return to Knowle Green around 9:30 a.m., followed by a steady stream for approximately one hour. Runners will use the south-side footway towards the finish and should not obstruct traffic, although spectators may occasionally step into the road. Experienced marshals will be present to manage this safely.
Gresham Road to Laleham Road (B376)
Between 9:00 a.m. and 9:20 a.m., runners will proceed along Gresham Road towards the river. While they are encouraged to remain on the pavement, the number of participants means some may briefly move into the road. Traffic movement may be challenging during this time.
Laleham Road to The Retreat
From approximately 9:02 a.m., runners will use the east-side pavement of Laleham Road (the side furthest from the river). Residents with driveways on this side may find vehicle access difficult until around 10:00 a.m.
Near Grosvenor Road, runners will use the service road, which may temporarily affect vehicle access. At The Retreat, runners turn left into Worple Road.
Worple Road – The Retreat to Commercial Road
Access to and from Florence Road, Lansdowne Road, Nursery Gardens and Stuart Way may be restricted during the race. Runners should have cleared this section by approximately 10:00 a.m. Marshals will be stationed at each junction.
Laleham Road – Commercial Road to Laleham Village Roundabout (via The Retreat)
From 9:10 a.m. onward, runners will rejoin Laleham Road from Commercial Road and head back toward The Retreat. During this time, faster runners will pass slower runners still completing their first lap, making vehicle movements particularly difficult for residents on the east side. This section is expected to remain busy until about 10:00 a.m.
At The Retreat, the lead runners cross Worple Road and continue toward Laleham Village. This junction will be managed by professional traffic marshals to ensure safety and minimise delays.
Notcutts garden centre is open from 10:00 am on a Sunday - all the runners should be passed by this time.
Drivers may experience difficulty entering and exiting Northfield Road from 9:15 to 9:45. Marshals will endeavour to make this as smooth as possible.
As the runners approach the roundabout at Laleham village they begin to be more spread out and most will be on the footway.
Laleham Village Roundabout to Kingston Road - B377 - The Broadway, Ashford Road.
Residents along this road will experience difficulty leaving their driveways from 9:15 until 10:15.
Marshals will be positioned at the junctions with Bingham Drive, Shaftesbury Crescent, Charles Road and Gloucester Crescent to ensure traffic flows and delays are kept to a minimum.
Kingston Road to Knowle Green
The last third of the race sees the least disruption as the field becomes spread out, providing gaps for traffic to flow.
From 9:20 until 10:30 runners will be running along Kingston Road on the south footway towards Staines. Residents with driveways along this South side may experience momentary delays entering or leaving.
Vehicles entering or leaving Edinburgh Drive may also experience momentary delays. A marshal will be positioned here to minimise disruption.
Junctions with Matthew Arnold School, Cromwell Close, Bramley Close, Chestnut Grove and Fairlawns Close may also experience momentary delays.
Historically, the junction with Worple Road, the roundabout, has been the most challenging to marshal. This year, in a repeat of last year, the organisers have employed the use of a professional traffic management company to assist with traffic flow. We respectfully request drivers to exercise a little patience if entering or leaving Worple Road between 9:28 and 10:30 and caution if stopping to use the Broadway parade of shops.
The last marshalled junction on the course is Knowle Park Avenue with Kingston Road. Runners will be crossing this near to the finish of their run. There will be a steady stream of runners between 09:30 and 10:30, but sufficient gaps to egress safely.
Thank you
We sincerely appreciate your patience and continued support in helping make the Staines 10K a safe and successful community event.
